VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, refers to a technology that enables the transmission of voice and multimedia content over the internet using the Internet Protocol (IP).

Traditionally, voice communication was carried over the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), using circuit-switched networks. VoIP, on the other hand, converts analog audio signals into digital data packets, allowing them to be transmitted over the internet.
