Future mobile messaging services will be provided by operators from cloud-hosted, multi-generational solutions capable of delivering messages to subscribers and devices over any type of access network. These solutions will be able to automatically scale up or down to deal with fluctuations in required capacity, and will be highly secure. Increasingly, mobile messages will be used to manage and configure IoT devices, and the service will become less centred on human mobile subscribers. Demand for the service will continue to be strong – both as a secure channel for managing billions of IoT devices, and as a default, universal messaging service with guaranteed delivery and acceptance by consumers. The new architecture will allow operators to reduce the costs of sustaining legacy 2G and 3G services, and to match investments in new 4G and 5G services with market demand, ensuring the overall profitability of messaging services as the market develops and evolves. This new approach requires a vendor completely committed to messaging, innovation, and serving the needs of the Operator community.

Mobile Messaging is entering into a fourth decade of existence and demand for the service remains strong. Growing traffic volumes on A2P services and new use cases around IoT and M2M demonstrate the continuing need for a 100% reliable, universal messaging channel.  Enterprises and subscribers value the service because they know their messages will always be delivered regardless of their location or the access network they are using. It is absolutely critical for Operators to maintain this consumer confidence in the reliability of the service, and they must do this at a time when networks are transitioning to Standalone and Non-Standalone 5G technologies. At a time when the demands for reliability could not be greater, Operators are faced with the technical challenge of delivering messages over new core network elements and gateways. Subscribers don’t care about the technical issues Operators have to deal with – they just want their messages delivered, without delay.

In order to support this grown demand and more complex architecture of multi-generational networks, Operators will need to look at new ways of deploying and maintaining their services. It is inevitable that cloud architectures will play a major role, as they permit the use of the latest modern software providing the sophisticated functionality Operators require to meet the latest market requirements.  Cloud architectures provide great flexibility, but they also require new processes to support and maintain and to ensure that Operators are taking advantage of the available features.

To meet the challenge of offering solutions from the Cloud,  Openmind have completely redesigned our process for delivering software to use a CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) methodology. This ensures our customers always have access to the latest functionality and security patches developed by our Engineering team. Our core platform has also been completely re-built as a cloud-native messaging application with a micro-service architecture to allow for complete flexibility and independent scaling of different modules.
